Different Is Not Always Bad

It’s Christmastime again!

I love the lights, the snow, and the joy that is present in the air. There is such a feeling of hope during the holidays. Even though things might be hard, there’s still some light somewhere that makes it better, at least a little.

If Christmas looks very different for you this year, take heart! There are special gifts of joy, new traditions, and peace to discover.

For example, if you normally travel and it can’t happen this year, find ways to “travel” close to where you live. You could dress up in pajamas, bring hot cocoa, play holiday music, and drive around looking at all the Christmas lights one evening. Children love this! And it can be pretty magical for adults too.

How about doing some new Christmas arts and crafts?

If your budget is small, there are all sorts of DIY Christmas craft ideas online that use items you may already have in your house. Also, places like Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and (especially!) The Dollar Tree will have a good assortment of items and kits to choose from.

What about making an old-fashioned popcorn garland? Just pop some plain corn (no salt or butter), let it sit out a couple days to harden, and then string the popped kernels together with some thread and a needle! You can also add fresh cranberries or color the popcorn kernels.

Make a family game night! Learn a new card game, pull out a puzzle, or “game swap” with another friend or family. You can also find games for cheap at second hand stores. Maybe even play by candlelight!

If the reason this holiday season is different for you is because you lost a friend or a loved one, take it easy and extend as much grace to yourself as you can. Find something new to do, it could be in honor of the person you’re missing, or just something to get your mind off of it all. Hugs and love to you! It will be okay.

Lastly, whatever the reason that Christmas and the holiday season may be different for you and your family this year, one thing never changes.

Jesus.

And His great love for you and me!

With Jesus, there is always hope, peace, and joy. You don’t have to spend this time alone…He is with you when you invite Him in!

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat] with Me.” - Revelation 3:20 AMPC

He has promised to NEVER leave you.

“…for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] [Josh. 1:5.]” - Hebrews 13:5b AMPC

You’ve got this, mama!

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great Light; those who dwelt in the land of intense darkness and the shadow of death, upon them has the Light shined. [Isa. 42:6; Matt. 4:15, 16.]
For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace. [Isa. 25:1; 40:9-11; Matt. 28:18; Luke 2:11.]
Of the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from the [latter] time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this. [Dan. 2:44; I Cor. 15:25-28; Heb. 1:8.]” - Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 AMPC

Run to Jesus. He will never let you down. His hope, His love, and His peace are all that you need.

Much love and blessings to you!

Kristi
