When Motherhood Gets You Down…Look Up

We all have our moments.

THOSE moments.

Everything seems to be going swimmingly, then all of a sudden, a hook comes out of left field and drags you under the waves.

You had a handle on this.

It was finally going to be okay.

But no.

Whatever it is, is back, and in greater force. Do you hear the lies screaming in your ears? The fear tearing at your heart?

Okay. STOP. Breathe. Pause.

Tell the nasty voices to SHUT UP and then look towards heaven. I like to say “Jesus HELP me!” Then listen.

Ask what your loving Father in Heaven has to say about your situation.

Take what He says and believe it because it’s the truth. He doesn’t lie. Ever.

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”
‭‭‬‬

Numbers‬ ‭23:19‬ ‭NLT

He loves you SO MUCH!!! His thoughts towards you are filled with loving-kindness and mercy and grace.

“For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 AMP

You see, the Devil cannot be creative. He has to re-use the attack strategies he knows, so, he will. And he will throw them at you (again and again), with seemingly perfect (in an awful way) timing.

You’re tired.

You’re doing something new.

You’re scared of messing up.

You’re overwhelmed…

And BAM. There it is. The screaming battering ram of repeated lies.

Really and truly, Satan (the Devil) is the Father of Lies. He specializes in them. They come in all forms…emotions, feelings, perceptions, situations, etc.

“…[The Devil] was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

John 8:44 NLT

All he can do is LIE. That’s it. He a DEFEATED foe. He can’t touch you or harm you unless you give him permission to do so (something we would never do willingly or knowingly, but it happens when we believe the lies he tells us).

Here’s how he works…

⁃ Satan sees an opening (we’re tired, feeling overwhelmed, scared, etc.).

⁃ He jumps in with a lie (“you can’t”, “you’re a failure”, “you’re a bad mom”, “someone else would do a better job at mothering your children”, etc).

⁃ ***We now have a choice to engage with the lie, believe it, and accept it as reality, or not. ***

⁃ If you believe the lie, he now has your permission to come in and torment you in that area of your life.

⁃ YUCK.

Here’s how God works…

⁃ He equips you for the job of motherhood.

⁃ He establishes your identity in who He created you to be.

⁃ His truth sets you free.

If you find that you’ve believed some lies, take heart! They can be disarmed and disposed of.

Here’s how you get rid of them…

1. Ask Holy Spirit to help you identify the lie (it’s best to do this one at a time if you find there’s more than one lie).

2. Break agreement with that lie.

3. Ask Holy Spirit to show you the truth.

4. Make agreement with the truth He shows you and invite Him in to heal your heart.

Here’s an example…

“Holy Spirit, please show me what lies I’ve believed about myself.” *pause and listen to what He tells or shows you.* “In Jesus’ name, I break agreement with the lie ___________. Holy Spirit, what is the truth?” *pause and listen for what He tells or shows you.* “In Jesus’ name, I make agreement with the truth ____________. Please seal this in my heart and fill me up. Please heal any hurt in me that was caused by that lie. Thank you Jesus! Amen.”

So, when life smacks you down, lift your head and look up to Jesus. He has promised to NEVER leave you or forsake you and that He will be there to help you!

“…For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?””

Hebrews 13:5-6 NLT

You are not alone.

You can do this!!!

Love and blessings,

Kristi
