The Night Watch

When the world is dark and quiet and the stars cover the sky, there are those whose watchful gaze, loving arms and care, are always ready whenever they are needed to soothe, protect and help regardless of the hour.

Somewhere in the night, a Mama is up with a baby. Providing precious nourishment for a growing little one, forsaking her own rest to ensure the comfort of her child.

Another mama is up, wiping a fevered brow. Speaking life, health and healing over a cough, changing wet sheets or getting little hands a cup of cold water.

As the stars shine and the rest of the world sleeps, somewhere there is a Mama praying for peaceful dreams, interceding for her child, standing on faith, or rocking another to sleep.

The call of motherhood is one that never ends and it knows no time clock. The night requires we watch, we wait, and we care for the precious ones God has placed into our hands.

At this time of year, I am reminded of others who were awake as the moon and stars shone keeping watch over their precious flock by night. They didn’t slumber, they didn’t sleep; no, they could not. Their watchful gaze must stay alert to protect innocent, defenseless lambs from those seeking to devour in the dark.

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came Upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is Born this Day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly Host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, Goodwill toward men."  - Luke 2:8-14 KJV

The Angels and the shepherds were there that night. Watching over and visiting a young mother who had just delivered her first child. In those moments, far from home, she may have felt very alone. But she was not.

The job of motherhood can often seem thankless, it can seem unnoticed, and in the midnight hours as we tend to and care for our young, exhaustion can sometimes be overwhelming.

In these moments, as we sit in the light of the Moon, in the glow of a night light, I encourage us to take heart and to resist the temptation to feel anything other than honor; for those who are trusted with the night watch are trusted with the highest honor, for they watch the most precious.

As we sit awake, let us remember The One Who never slumbers or sleeps and who is very much watching over us every moment of our lives and who never gives up that gaze during one moment of the night.

"Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is the shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the Moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even forever more." - Psalm 121:4-8 KJV

Take heart precious one, that your Father God’s eyes are always on you. When you lay your head down to rest, lay it down in confidence knowing that The One who sees you keeps a watch over you by night. You are His precious offspring, His heritage, His flock and His gaze will never wander from you. You are always under His watchful eye.

I encourage you today that the next time you sit up at night caring for one of His little lambs, remember the honor and the privilege it is to be a part of the Night Watch; The mothers, the shepherds, and The Father.

Mamas,

We have SO much to be thankful for!

Homes.

Food.

Clothing.

Children.

Spouses.

Friends.

Family.

Beauty in nature.

God’s love.

God’s mercy.

God’s grace.

God’s forgiveness.

God’s healing.

God’s eternal presence WITH us.

How God made us!

“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.” - Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Motherhood in and of itself…

The list goes on and on in such a beautiful way.

Not only does our thanksgiving glorify and bless Him, it returns back to us and brings us increased blessings in our lives!

An attitude of thankfulness in and of itself is healing to our minds, our hearts, and also our bodies, as what we believe and think about has a direct effect on our physical state, for better or for worse (let’s choose the better and be thankful!).

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.” - Proverbs‬ ‭23‬:‭7‬a NKJV‬‬

Thankfulness is the cure for jealousy, envy, and comparison, and with it comes contentment and peace. These have incalculable value that no money can buy.

If things seem or become tight in our lives, whether it’s finances, our bandwidth, the time on our hands, etc., let us lift our eyes ABOVE our circumstances and ABOVE all of the distraction and noise and start intentionally choosing things to be thankful for.

Purpose in your heart to do this daily and you will see and experience such a beautiful change in your life! It will flow out to those around you, bringing beauty, healing, and peace. Isn’t that what we long for in our homes?

The gifts that thankfulness brings are here for us, right now, in this very moment…all we have to do is engage our hearts, our mouths, and our minds and choose to be thankful, for truly, He DOES load us with benefits every single day!

“Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” - Psalms‬ ‭103‬:‭2‬-‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

(Read the entire Psalm! There is so much rich goodness in it!)

Cheers to the all on the Road of Thankfulness!

Choose it today!

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” - 2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

All. In.

As moms, we face a challenge and a choice…to half-heartedly mother our children, or to truly go all in, and mother them with all that we are, all the while leaning on Jesus Christ for all that we need to do it…

Because we NEED Him and His equipping and anointing and strength. This God-sized calling of Motherhood requires it.

And guess what?

He’s all in too. In fact, He’s always been all in regarding your motherhood, and if you will lean into Him and follow His leading and His example, you will find yourself reigning in motherhood, enjoying sweet success in all that you do.

The calling of Motherhood is a very serious one and really, it is a royal appointment by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, to steward HIS children.

Could you imagine a royal nanny doing a halfway job? Never! She would have to be specially trained, qualified, and chosen for the position and role.

Dear mama, THAT’S YOU.

YOU have been specially trained and ARE BEING specially trained.

YOU have been qualified.

YOU have been equipped.

YOU have been CHOSEN.

Deemed worthy. Fully supported, protected, and provided for by the King of the Universe, TO MOTHER His children.

Wow.

What an HONOR. What a PRIVILEGE.

Be ALL IN, mama, The King expects it of you and is here to help you do it well.

You’ve got this!!!

September

“He will return the fathers’ hearts to their children and the children’s hearts to their fathers.”” - Malachi‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭TPT‬‬
“He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents;”” - Malachi‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬
“He will change parents’ attitudes toward their children and children’s attitudes toward their parents.”” - Malachi‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬ ‭GW‬‬

We all have moments when we get frustrated or upset with our children.

Whatever reason is, there often is an invitation to distance ourselves from our children in our hearts and minds.

Sweet mama, don’t accept that invitation. It isn’t from Jesus and will only harm your relationship with your child.

The enemy only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus came to give us life and life abundant! (John 10:10)

In those moments, lean on Jesus and ask Him what He says about your child and the current situation that is upsetting you (or the both of you). His words are truth, and will not only set you and your child free, they will also disarm all the harm the devil meant to wreak on you and your family.

The beautiful thing about mothering with Jesus is that we get to spend His patience that never ends, use His kindness and understanding that has no limit, and dwell in His goodness and mercy, and let it overflow to those around us.

It is a dangerous thing to give in to the temptation to distance ourselves from our children, and if this has happened or is happening, take heart! God already has the remedy!

Simply ask Him to turn your heart back to your child. Freely, and from the depths of your heart, forgive whatever caused offense or hurt to you, and receive His healing balm into your heart and soul.

If you do this, you will find that the “yuck” you felt about your child disappears and eventually, the heart of your child will turn back towards you and the breach will be healed.

Our God is the God of more than enough,  and so much goodness, kindness, mercy, love, understanding, and joy that is all freely and generously given to us. Receive it. Let Him guard and guide your heart towards your children and rejoice in the depths of the freedom and restoration that will unfold!

You really and truly are BLESSED, mama!

You can do this!

August

"I am the Door; anyone who enters in through Me will be saved (and live). He will come in and he will go out [freely], and we'll find pasture. The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows). I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd risks and lays down His [own] life for the sheep.” - John 10:9-11 AMPC

Jesus. Our Good Shepherd.

If you do not know Jesus, I invite you to know Him today.

If you do not know Him as your Good Shepherd, I invite you to know him today.

Even those of us who were raised in church may sometimes not fully have a deep, intimate personal knowledge of Jesus.

We know who He is. We sing song about Him. We pray to Him sometimes.

But do we KNOW Him?

When I hear my husband speak, whether it’s over the phone, on a recording, from a far distance, or even when he whispers – I know that it’s him.

I recognize his voice. After being married for nearly 20 years, I know him inside and outside. I know his strengths, I know his coffee order, I know how he will react in any given situation. I know his character. I KNOW him.

In the natural, we may look at this and completely understand it. He’s my husband! Of course I know him. I’ve spent nearly 20 years with him.

But here’s the precious and beautiful thing:

We can KNOW Jesus this way.

Intimately.

Deeply.

Personally.

Thoroughly.

He is available to us in this capacity.

Here’s the better news: He LONGS to KNOW you this way and to be KNOWN by you this deeply.

Even deeper than any human relationship on this Earth can be our relationship with our Savior.

He is waiting to pour out the abundance of His love on you.

He is waiting to show you what it means to find rest.

He is waiting to show you what it means trust Him enough to cast your cares on Him, knowing that He really does care for you.

I invite you, today, to read this prayer and say it out loud and mean it from the bottom of your heart. And I promise you, that the Jesus that I KNOW will begin to reveal Himself to you.

Open up to Him. He is good. He is faithful. He is worthy of your trust.

Prayer:

“Father God, I thank you for Jesus. I thank you for His life, death, burial and resurrection. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of My Life right now. Jesus, I surrender myself to you. I thank you for your great love for me. I thank you for saving me. I want to know you more. I want to be intimately, deeply acquainted with you. I ask that you would show me how to have a relationship with you. I ask you for deeper love, deeper connection, and more intimacy. When I read The Word, I ask that you would reveal yourself to me because you are The Word. Thank you for loving me, thank you for meeting me where I am. I am excited to start this journey together. Amen”

“All the noise”

I don’t know about you, but here lately it feels like it’s so easy to be distracted. It seems like there is chaos, upset, confusion and frustration everywhere. It seems like no matter where you look we are being inundated with negative voices that are screaming out for our attention.

I often feel like the Grinch from that great classic animated movie when he is having each side of his head pounded on like a drum saying, “all the noise noise noise noise noise! If there’s one thing I hate it’s all the noise”

Because this is what it all feels like! There is so much noise. Our finances make noise. Social media makes noise. The TV makes noise. Our jobs and relationships, circumstances and schedules all make noise. It feels like the beating of the drum that we almost cannot get away from.

We become anxious, frustrated, exhausted and try to function the best we can while all the time having to tune out the constant beating of life around us.

Can I tell you a truth today? The noise is out there. That is not a lie. But what we focus on is what will shape us, and what we think about will ultimately be the thing that forms the way we live.

The truth is this: we have control of what we let take over our mind. Unfortunately, we have let those drumsticks continue to beat our minds over and over.

The glorious responsibility of maintaining our peace falls on us. Our precious God and Father cannot do it for us, but He has given us everything we need to remain peaceful no matter how the noise in the world continues to rage on.

"You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You." - Isaiah 26:3 AMPC

This verse is so precious, it gives us the key to keeping our mind at peace. We keep our mind on Him.

Keeping our mind on the things of this world will never bring us to peace. In fact, it will only lead to everything negative we don’t want. He is the Prince of Peace, and in Him we will have GREAT peace.

He has given us a tool to help us with this. Jesus Himself said, “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)

The Word of God is our bread and we need it EVERY day.

We are so fortunate as to have multiple translations of the Bible available on our phones at any given time, and most of the time for free.

When we feed on God’s Word we’re keeping our mind off of the noise and putting it onto His promises.

This feeds your Spirit, helps your soul and will quiet your mind.

"Great peace have they who love Your law; nothing shall offend them or make them stumble." - Psalm 119:165 AMPC
"My son (for daughters also!), forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments; for length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you." - Proverbs 3:1-2 AMPC  (Added parentheses emphasis mine)

God has good things for you.

His voice will never bring chaos. It will never bring fear.

He only has good things for you.

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of a calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control." - 2 Timothy 1:7 AMPC

So if the noise seems to be everywhere. If you cannot seem to escape it, turn to Him. Turn to His Word. Live there. Abide there. Stay there and rest in His peace 🤍

He loves you, Mama

June

Dearest mama,

God has paid the ultimate price for you to live free! He wants us to be free from shame, guilt, and condemnation…free from the horrible slavery to sin we were all born into…free from all fear, anger, anxiety, torment, panic, and depression.

His heart’s desire is that we accept the free gift of salvation He paid for through the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus, so we can be restored back to Him in every way. When this happens, His amazing power and righteousness overwhelm and erase all sin and wrong-doing in our lives and give us the strength and grace to finally be who we were made to be and LIVE how we were made to live.

There is so much FREEDOM in Jesus!

If you have accepted His free gift of salvation, don’t stop growing deeper and deeper in your relationship with Him. It is through this relationship that His redeeming and restoring power is loosed into your life and all of those things that once held you back in sin or fear, finally fall away, never to return.

Dear one, you were MADE to live a victorious life! If your motherhood is looking anything but victorious, dive into Jesus and get Him in the center of your life. Let Him in, listen to what He says, and do what He tells or shows you to do. You will find that the sweetest freedom and the most peace-filled life you never imagined will start becoming a reality. He loves you THAT much!!!

Live free, today, mama. Live. FREE.

“So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.” - ‭‭John‬ ‭8‬:‭36‬ ‭NLT‬‬

May

God LOVES moms!

He loves how we serve, how we give of ourselves, how we create with our children, and ALL of the amazing (and mundane) things we do throughout our motherhood journeys.

Being a mom is AWESOME and such a privilege!

We get to partner with the King of Kings, the God of the Universe, in creating, bringing forth, and nurturing LIFE.

All of those moments we experience, from the highs to the lows, and everything in between, is important to Him, and He SO values our hearts and efforts as we pour ourselves into this God-sized calling.

The amazing thing is, He doesn’t call the equipped, He equips The Called. That’s us. You, and me, as women created in the image and likeness of God, we GET to do this! We are called, we are equipped, we are anointed with His power and His ability, and then we are a success.

Being a mother is an amazing thing. Thank you for choosing this high calling and for walking it out to the very best of your ability. Remember, we don’t do this FOR God, we do it WITH Him. He enables, He strengthens, He equips, He restores, He redeems, He does all of it…and we get to partner with Him in this great work of motherhood.

Happy Mother’s Day!

“Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her, [saying], Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all. Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised! Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city]! [Phil. 4:8.]” - Proverbs‬ ‭31‬:‭28‬-‭31‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

April

"David was greatly distressed, for the men spoke of stoning him because the souls of each of them all were bitterly grieved, each man for his sons and daughters. But David encouraged and strengthened himself in the Lord his God." - 1 Samuel 30:6 AMPC

When we think about encouragement, we often think about running to someone else to build us up. In a time of weakness, we look for the one who’s going to build strength into us and help us fight another day. That’s what others are for, right? Encouraging us.

The scripture shows us another way, however. In the passage above, King David and his men returned to their homes to see all of their wives and children kidnapped. It was a time of great despair, frustration, terror and anguish. The men were so angry that they turned against their king and leader, David, and spoke of stoning him.

In this moment, David had no one else. He had no one to go to for encouragement. So what did he do? He encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

There’s going to be moments in our lives where we feel alone, where we look around and at the moment there doesn’t seem to be any help. We may be facing darkness, a trial, or separation from peace. What do we do? Where do we turn to receive the encouragement we so desperately desire.

We turn to the Lord. We turn to His promises. We recall the things He has done for us. Has He not been faithful?

There are times in our lives where we have to get up, look in the mirror and encourage ourselves. Pull on the strength that the Lord our God has put inside of our hearts. Call on the anointing that he has placed inside of us. Remember The Word and what it says.

When we feel weak, He is strong. He is inside of us at every single moment, and the strength that He offers is available constantly.

King David offers us another beautiful example of this in Psalm 103. It is a popular Bible passage and very well known, but let’s look at it freshly again;

"Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul; and all that is [deepest] within me, bless His holy name! Bless (affectionately, gratefully praise) the Lord, O my soul, and forget not [one of] all His benefits." - Psalm 103:1-2 AMPC

The king goes on for the next 20 verses to bring to his own remembrance the benefits God has given to him.

The next time you need some encouragement, of course it’s never wrong to go to a dear friend, your husband, or a trusted family member to seek their wisdom and their comfort, but God has something there for us at every moment and at all times. We can encourage ourselves in the Lord and in His mighty benefits.

He is with you today. In you. For you. Rest on Him.

March

“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” - Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

It’s all about the mind.

The main battlefield lies in our minds.

What we think about, meditate on, and worry over is going to have a direct impact on our peace, our health, our happiness, and our lives as a whole.

It is SO important to have our minds renewed with the truth that lies in God’s Word. Storms have been coming more and more frequently, whether in physical form or mental or spiritual, and if we don’t want to be tossed about on these waves, we must get a grip on The Word and daily renew our minds like our lives depend on it. Because they do.

Satan LOVES to whisper lies and half-truths to us in our moments of pain, hurt, confusion, tiredness, and overwhelm. We need to know what is from the enemy and must be thrown aside, and what is from our loving Heavenly Father and can be stood upon and trusted, even through the worst of times.

“You will guard him and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind [both its inclination and its character] is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You.” - Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Remember, Jesus told us:

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” - John‬ ‭16‬:‭33‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

Take heart, mama! You have been given the power to overcome each and every circumstance you come across. Your Savior has promised to never leave you, nor forsake you.

“Be strong, courageous, and firm; fear not nor be in terror before them, for it is the Lord your God Who goes with you; He will not fail you or forsake you.” - Deuteronomy‬ ‭31‬:‭6‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

You’ve got this!

February

Hard things.

Hard times.

Hard questions.

He is with us through them all.

Not only is our precious God with us, but He promises to help us.

"Fear not [there is nothing to fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right hand of rightness and justice."  - Isaiah 41:10 AMPC

When fear comes to steal your joy and to tempt you into believing that God will not come through for you this time, remember His precious promises.

He is with you.

He says it again just a couple of verses later; He doubles down on His promise

"For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you!" - Isaiah 41:13 AMPC

God can be trusted!

We learned last month that He has good plans for you. New things. Wonderous things.

He is faithful.

Sometimes it seems like the world is crashing down, but our precious Father is constant and never changing and His promises for us are backed by the blood of Jesus.

"For though the mountains should depart and the hills be shaken or removed, yet My love and kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace and completeness be removed, says the Lord, Who has compassion on you." - Isaiah 54:10 AMPC

HE LOVES YOU!

Spend time with Him today. Search out His Word for the promises in it specifically for you and your situation.

He is so faithful, His Word contains every answer we could ever need.

Ask Him to help you.

Ask Him to show you.

He will.

We promise.

He loves you, Mama. He is for you and not against you. In Him, you can do this. ❤️

January

New.

Sometimes we lose sight about what this word really means.

It’s become so commonplace in our speech, we give little credence and depth of thought to understand it.

New.

Something that has never been before.

Full of possibility.

Full of wonder.

What lies ahead?

We don’t know.

But He does!

"Behold, I do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." - Isaiah 43:19

Peace of mind comes from not knowing what the future holds, but knowing WHO holds the future.

"Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do super abundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams].."  - Ephesians 3:20 AMPC

Not only do we know Who holds the future, but we know what His promises are for that future.

"For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome."  - Jeremiah 29:11 AMPC

Think about these last two scriptures and see what GOOD things your GOOD God has promised you:

Hope.

Peace.

Welfare.

His power working in YOU.

Beyond what you can imagine, think or dream.

We don’t necessarily know the details of 2025, but we do have His promises and we encourage you as you walk into this new year to hold on to every one of them, believe that you receive them by faith and stand on the goodness of The One Who promised them.

Happy New Year, Mama!

May 2025 be beyond all you can ask, think, and imagine and may it be filled with His Glory.

He has something new for you this year. And it is GOOD.
