Royalty

I want to tell you a little story…

The other day, I was looking around my house, feeling overwhelmed by the MESS. You know what I mean, toys everywhere, crumbs, dirty dishes, clean laundry waiting in baskets, etc. Not exactly what I would imagine as a “house ready for visitors.”

I complained about it to God, expressing my frustration at not having a house that was clean and tidy. I mean, my ideal “cleanliness level”, at least in my head, would be something where the Queen of England could walk in the door at any moment, and I wouldn’t have to scramble to tidy things up.

Realistic? HA. Nope. Not a bit.

I thought back to how it was before I had children. The house definitely stayed cleaner longer!

Here’s what the Good Lord said back to me: “are not your children royalty?”

Oh. MAN.

Yes. Yes, they are.

That was a God “mic-drop” moment.

See, I believe that all children are Heaven-sent, that they originate from God and are sent here with a specific purpose, plan, and destiny. No one child is more important than the other; they each fill a unique space and time that no one else can ever fill. Each child is needed and necessary!

Since God is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, any and all of His children are therefore also royalty. That reality hit like a slap in the face. Wow. I had been placing way too much importance and value on those outside of my family, my mission field, my ministry (i.e. the children God has given me).

My house is meant to be a safe place for my family. A nurturing “womb”, if you will, where we can all (especially the children) learn and grow and become who we were made to be. No one else was chosen to be their mother…I was. That means I have royal children to raise and I am their queen mother. This is a job I take very seriously, and I think, my perspective was changed in a very good way that day.

Mama, no matter where you are in your motherhood journey, I want to encourage you to look deeply at your children and see their true value and worth. It is SO tempting to measure your success as a mother by what others outside of your family think, but what they see is just the surface. They do not see the 24 hour shifts you put in when your children are sick, or giving another ounce of mercy and patience when you are beyond empty. They do not see you quietly crying alone in the pantry as you try and scrape something together from what is left because you can’t go shopping yet. They don’t see all the glorious “firsts” and those eureka moments you have with your child(ren) when they finally understand and demonstrate what you’ve been teaching them over and over and over.

And that’s okay.

They are not there in the nitty-gritty, but God is.

Let Him speak to you of their true worth and abilities as well as your own! It will be enlightening, encouraging, and will spur you on to keep doing the best job that you can.

Remember, mama, you ARE royalty.

And, you can do this!!!

Love and hugs,

Kristi
