Motherhood Just Hurts Sometimes

That baby you wish you could hold.

That orphan across the ocean (real ocean or an ocean of red-tape) you long to take home with you.

Your own child(ren) as they grow up and gradually pull away to become their own person(s).

It. Just. Hurts. Sometimes.

Sometimes there are seasons of grief. Long or short, they are painful and filled with heartache and lots of tears.

It’s okay.

It’s okay to go through loss, to experience heartache.

It’s natural, it’s normal, and it’s human.

There’s a lot of feelings and emotions to work through, and those take time. Be gentle with yourself. Give yourself a break with the daily grind and only do those things that are absolutely necessary. Everything else can wait.

You are that important.

Really. Truly.

Turn to Jesus. He is your Prince of Peace! I can say from personal experience, the protection, comfort, and healing He brings is second to none.

Take time to look at what is causing/has caused you pain, and feel those feelings. It can be very scary to do this, but it’s necessary in order to heal.

Let Jesus in. Ask Him what He thinks about it all, what He says about it and about you. His words and kindness will heal you faster than anything else out there in the world.

I promise. I know. I’ve done it. Multiple times.

Miscarriages.

Babies seemingly growing up overnight.

Traumatic labors and births.

He’s there in it and through it all, bringing peace, quiet joy, healing, and kindness. He’s also REALLY good at laying things to rest.

Sometimes part of the hurt comes from our own mistakes and regrets. The way we get free from those is by forgiving ourselves. And that can be one of the hardest things to do.

Is there an area where you need to forgive yourself? Jesus already forgiven you! Let Him help you extend that kindness to your own heart. Ask Him. He’s right there, waiting, like a gentleman. He won’t ever force His help or love on you. That isn’t who He is.

He is kind, loving, forgiving, and eternally good. You can trust His plans, His input, and His view of things.

All in all, motherhood is good. God is good. And we are good moms.

And, it’s gonna be okay.

Xoxoxo
